1. Tiger Woods
Tiger Wood's 15-year association with Electronic Arts may have brought in almost $771 million but he is unlikely to struggle too much without its support.
He is still by far the highest earning athlete in the world according toForbes magazine with earnings totalling $78 million. He earned more than $65 million since 2012 from endorsements while his resurgence on the golf course increased his prize money over the last 12 months to $13.1 million, double his total from the previous year.



2. Roger Federer


Tennis player Roger Federer has had a disappointing season- failing to reach a Grand Slam final for the first time since 2002 this year.

However he still manages to rake in $65 million through endorsements alongside a $7 million salary- making his earnings $71 million.

3. Kobe Bryant


Kobe Bryant is one of the world's greatest basketball player and ranks four on the NBA's list of all-time season scorers.

He has played for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his career and is estimated to have earned $62 million as of June 2013. His $27.85 million salary is $7 million higher than any other basketball player

4. LeBron James


Basketball player LeBron James has won two Olympic gold medals and many consider him the best player in the NBA today. He may earn less than Bryant, but his hefty endorsements mean he still rakes in $60 million a year.



5. Drew Brees



American football star Drew Brees became the highest paid NFL athlete of the time in 2012 after signing a five year, $100 million contract. He got $37 million as a bonus simply for signing with the New Orleans Saints. Together with his $11 million of endorsements Brees earns $51 million.

6. Aaron Rodgers



Rodgers stole Brees's title of highest paid NFL athlete earlier this year when he signed a contract worth $110 million. The Green Bay Packers quarterback had a slightly lower signing bonus than Brees ($35 million) but he still manages to earn $49 million a year.

7. Phil Mickelson


Golfer Phil Mickelson won the Open Championship this year, taking his total PGA victories to 42. He earns $44 million from endorsements and prior to his Open win had earned $ 5 million in prize money, taking his total earnings to $49 million.

8. David Beckham


David Beckham may now be retired but as of June he was still the highest earning footballer in the world, despite earning almost £13 million less than Cristiano Ronaldo.

His salary was £3.1 million before retiring, but his glittering 21-year career has ensured that he makes plenty of money from his endorsements with major brands. He took home £25.5 million in endorsements last year.

9. Cristiano Ronaldo



Cristiano Ronaldo recently agreed a new £76 million contract with Real Madrid until 2018, and reports suggest that his annual salary will be £14.25m. He secured £13.1 million worth of endorsements which takes his total earnings last year to £27.4 million.

10. Lionel Messi



Fifa's Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi is on track to win the award again this year, and could make it five years in a row. The Barcelona forward.

His current contract pays him more than £12.4 million annually on top of his £13.1 million of annual endorsements. In total Messi is earning £25.5 million a year.
