Wayne Rooney probably has just about everything he could ever want or need, so it wouldn’t be too easy for his Manchester United teammates to band together and buy him something really special.
They did their best, however and picked him up a copy of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s autobiography as his birthday present which was yesterday Oct 24.
The only problem, if you can call it that, is that Ferguson used the book to criticise the striker:
My Autobiography - which had a chapter in it dedicated to Rooney – confirmed Ferguson’s previous comments that the England star ‘wanted away’ from Old Trafford this summer.
But Rooney insists the book PROVES he did not officially request to leave the club amid intense transfer speculation linking him with a switch to Chelsea.
The 28-year-old did not respond directly to Ferguson’s claims, which also criticised the striker for being a slower learner with fitness problems.
Rooney has not seen Ferguson since the Scot retired this summer and revealed after United’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad he is not too bothered what his old manager thinks.
David Moyes has given Rooney a ‘new lease of life’ since replacing Ferguson according to the Liverpool-born player, who has seen his influence at the club increase greatly this season.Whether he does or not, the England forward appears to be enjoying life under David Moyes.
Happy belated birthday Rooney!
